Delta Electronics EMEA and OneTreePlanted Partner up again for a Reforestation Project in Honduras!

Delta Electronics EMEA, a prominent leader in the region, recently concluded its exclusive employee-only CSR initiative, known as the 'Charity Fitness Challenges.' The initiative has been continuing annually for the last 3 years and is done 2 times a year.
Taking place from May 30th till July 3rd, 2024, this initiative was dedicated to contribute to the reforestation efforts of to the Cordillera Nombre de Dios and the Corredor Occidente regions in Honduras. For every 10 kilometer covered by our colleagues through walking, biking or any form of exercised, and for every hour of exercise recorded, Delta EMEA pledged to donate one tree to the regions.
Since 1990, around 45% of Honduras’ natural forests have disappeared due to overuse of natural resources, loss of fauna and vegetation, population pressure on forests, and the expansion of agriculture and livestock. These activities have led to increased deforestation and forest degradation, resulting in soil nutrient loss, water shortages, crop failure, sedimentation and contamination of water bodies, floods, and landslides. Consequently, rural farmers have been forced to move production areas to higher altitudes, clearing protected forestlands and harming the country’s crucial water systems.
This reforestation project aims to build on the progress achieved from 2020 to 2022, restoring deforested and degraded public and private land in the Cordillera Nombre de Dios and Corredor Occidente, and expanding planting activities into productive areas within the coffee, cocoa, rambutan, citrus, and livestock value chains. Over the next three years, OneTreePlanted will plant 600,000 trees (approximately 200,000 annually) across 4,000 hectares, with species carefully selected based on the agroecological conditions of the identified areas.
The premise of the initiative was simple yet impactful. For every 10 kilometers covered by walking, biking, hiking, etc., or for every recorded hour of exercise, Delta pledged to donate one tree. Over the span of fours weeks, more than 260 EMEA colleagues joined the initiative. Our colleagues successfully covered 21.931,6 kilometers and exercised for an additional 212 hours, resulting in 2.405 trees to be planted. Inspired by our colleagues' dedication, Delta EMEA has rounded up the number and will be donating 3.000 trees to this region.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the employees who wholeheartedly embraced the Charity Fitness Challenges, contributing to bringing greenery to the Cordillera Nombre de Dios and the Corredor Occidente regions and supporting the local communities who live there.
Delta EMEA remains steadfast in its commitment to corporate social responsibility and will persist in spearheading initiatives aimed at making a positive and lasting difference in the communities we serve.
